A No-Brainer Way to Add Massive Value to Your Puppies

What is the single most impactful thing that breeders can do to add the most value to their puppies?

What is the single most impactful thing that breeders can do to add the most value to their puppies?

There’s an absolutely massive demand for puppies that are already trained before they go into the new owner’s hands. There are just a handful of breeders who are taking advantage of this demand.

So why is the demand there?

The fact is that there’s a lot of owners who don’t feel very confident about their ability, or their time, or their patience, to potty train a puppy, teach it basic manners, teach it not to bite and mouth, teach it to walk nicely on a leash, and sit, and come. All of those things that we take for granted if we’re doggy people that are really “easy” to do.

For a lot of people they’re quite daunting.  If they happen to have the money, they would rather pay you to do those things for them, than actually try to figure it out on their own.

So there is a huge demand there, and to give you some idea of how big that demand is, I did a little bit of research into the keywords that people are putting into Google and what they’re searching for online.

84,512 Online Searches a Month for Potty Trained Puppies

I can tell you that the search term, potty trained puppies, is performed 84,512 times every single month. That there are buyers out there looking for potty trained puppies, right?

You can add a lot of value to your puppies, just through giving them basic potty training, let them go at eight weeks, get a really good price and that’s great.

But It doesn’t end there.  The fact is you can add even more value by doing a little bit more with your puppies.

Now there’s a breeder in our group, one of my elite breeder students, who offers four weeks of extra socialization and basic training on her puppies. She charges $500 a week for that. She only takes six puppies at a time. She’s always fully subscribed. There’s always people who would rather pay an extra $2,000, over the extra four weeks, to get a puppy that’s been socialized, and potty trained, and taught basic manners, than actually have to worry about that themselves.   So she’s routinely adding $2,000 value to many of her puppies.

$11,000 Golden Retriever Puppies

There’s even a breeder that I know of in the United States who’s breeding Golden Retrievers. They are selling their trained 16 week old puppies for $11,000.

So, they’re doing a lot more stuff. They’re really reinforcing the learning that the toddler stage puppies had so it’s more set in the 16 week old puppy.  Just by repetition and turning out a puppy that doesn’t need you to continue that on, it’s already embedded in its brain.

An Ideal Way to Add Value to Working Dogs

If you happen to be a breeder who’s got a working dog breed, and working dog lines – for example, hunting dogs or protection dogs, that kind of thing – then you will find that there are people searching exactly for your kind of dog that is already trained.

I’ll give you some examples of some research I’ve done on this.

  • For example, trained therapy dogs:  There are nearly 16,000 searches a month looking specifically for trained therapy dogs!
  • Then some other examples: trained hunting dogs, 8,000 searches a month.
  • Well trained protection dog, two and a half thousand searches a month.

So you can imagine that if you are the breeder whose website gets found when people are doing those searches, then you’re well positioned to be able to sell your puppies to that market.  Does that make sense?

So how can breeders make this happen for them?

There are two essential ingredients that breeders have to have, to make it happen for them.

  1. Time

The first one is they’ve got to have time, obviously.  If they’re trying to hold a full-time job, come home, cook dinner, and do all the housework and all that, and then start worrying about their dogs and training their puppies, it’s probably not going to work for them.

The breeders who are making this happen have successfully transitioned from just basic break-even style breeding to Elite Breeder level.  They have positioned themself at the top of the market, so they’re getting enough money per puppy to replace their full-time job.

Those breeders can then stay at home and they have the time to put into their puppies.

2. Proper Website

The other thing that successful breeders using this strategy absolutely have to have is a website that works.

So when someone’s doing the search on Google, your website has to come up for that search term for potty trained puppy. Your website has to be optimized plus have a page specially constructed around that search term.

You have to know what you’re doing with your website and there are a lot of website pitfalls for breeders.  It’s not rocket science, it’s just step by step stuff, but very easy to get it wrong!

Once you have those two things organized, then you too can capitalize on this market.
