Have unsold leftover puppies? If you had a properly functioning website, you could get double or even triple the top prices just by adding a little training.
In this video one of our US Elite dog breeders shares how she sold 4 month old puppies for double her usual $3500 Elite Breeder price. Dr Meg explains how other breeders can achieve that too.
This interview was taken from one of the live Question and Answer sessions run weekly for members of the Elite Breeder Formula program.
Breeder:
We’re doing real well. We just had a litter of five. My prices have gone up to $3,500 and still have people joining the list.
Dr Meg:
Awesome. And you can always add value to them, if you are stuck with them a little bit longer. How many inquiries are you getting a day now, Laura? On average?
Breeder:
The last two that I had leftover from a litter were four months old when I sold them. I had them potty trained and leash trained and everything by the time they sold. And they sold for double what their brothers did!
Dr Meg:
Wow.
Yeah. So that’s another option, isn’t it. If you’ve got pups leftover and just give them basic training, there is a market there for trained dogs, definitely.
For example, there’s a golden retriever breeder in the states who sells trained golden retrievers. And the way they do it is they have a web page that’s optimized for the phrase “Trained Golden Retriever puppies”.
Anyone who’s putting a search on that phrase into Google, is going to see that breeder’s website come up at the top of the search results.
The breeder has pictures of the puppies on a page of their website. And then they say this one’s $11,000. This one’s $13,000. This one’s $12,000. Fully trained at I think around 16 weeks of age.
If you go to the website, all those puppies have been reserved.
So how are those buyers finding them?
The way they’re getting the owners for them, the buyers, is that they have it on the website. So that’s why a website is so valuable in the long-term, to capture people who are looking exactly for that.
There is definitely a market for trained puppies of all breeds. People are busy, and many are unsure how to go about providing a puppy with basic training. As a result, many people with the funds would rather pay to have their puppies potty trained, leash trained and given basic manners training than have to go through that themselves.
For breeders who are interested in adding this kind of value to their puppies, the key to those people finding you is through having an optimized breeder website.
In this sneak peek behind the scenes of our Elite Breeder group’s weekly Q and A, Dr Meg shows how some breeders are making this work for them.
